Why We Do What We Do
At FUMC Cleburne, family ministry starts from one conviction:
The most important relationship in your child's life is their relationship with Jesus Christ and the most important relationship shaping that faith is the one they have with you.
Many children's and student ministries are built to make the church the center of a kid's faith. Ours isn't. We believe faith is “caught more than it's taught” and that kids learn the importance of faith by watching the adults closest to them pray, worship, serve, and struggle honestly with what it means to follow Jesus. That means our job isn't to replace you. It's to walk alongside you, equip you, and give your family a church home to grow in together.

Parents Come First
The results from many studies back up what most parents already sense:
Your influence strongly outweighs any church staff or ministry program in shaping your child’s faith life.
Kids whose parents are actively growing in their own faith are far more likely to grow in theirs. So before we're a program provider, we're here to help you in your own walk with Christ, because that's the surest way to help your kids in theirs.

One Church, All Ages, Together
We believe kids and students deserve spaces in the church that allow them to connect with others their age, AND we also believe kids and students need to connect with others beyond their own age group, they need the whole church. Studies show that worshiping together as a family, and building relationships with adults and kids outside their own grade, is one of the strongest predictors that a young person's faith will last into adulthood. That's why so much of what we do,from Sunday mornings to Wednesday nights, strives to bring generations together.
A Pathway, Not a Program
Faith grows in stages, and kids move through these stages at their own pace, from the earliest years of simply feeling safe and loved, through story and wonder, into real questions, and eventually into a faith they choose and own for themselves. We've built a discipleship pathway around those stages, from the nursery through high school graduation and beyond, so that what we offer meets your child where they actually are.
